IPL / RF

IPL Photorejuvenation

Photorejuvenation is a popular cosmetic procedure that uses intense pulsed light (IPL).
Most people know that pulsed light treatment is used for hair removal, but this minimally invasive procedure can also be used to treat a number of skin concerns, including:

- Pigmentation and ‘age spots’
- Sun damage
- Uneven skin tone
- Rosacea or skin redness
- Broken capillaries / thread veins on the face

What are the benefits of Photorejuventation?
Reduce hyperpigmentation and skin redness to create a more even complexion
- Make your skin appear more radiant and skin tone more even
- Stimulate the production of collagen and elastin
- Assist in the healing and reduction of acne breakouts
- Increase blood circulation to the treatment area and reduce any inflammation

Radiofrequency

RF stands for ‘radiofrequency’ – a type of energy that uses radio waves. The treatment is considered safe and effective for rejuvenation the skin, and reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

RF is a popular treatment for the face and neck in particular, to improve the production of collagen and elastin, which ultimately gives you firmer, thicker skin. The treatment can also be used on other areas such as stomach, arms and thighs, to firm sagging skin.

The treatment consists of a machine that creates radio waves, which are transmitted through your skin. These waves give off heat that prompts your skin to speed up cell turnover and produce more collagen and elastin.

In the first 24 hours, you may see some redness and feel as though you have a mild case of sunburn. Those symptoms disappear pretty quickly. As with most collagen induction treatments, the best results may take up to 3 months to see. The appearance of the skin can keep improving for up to six months after the radiofrequency treatment.

This is a standalone treatment, but may be used in conjunction with other treatments that use pulsed light, such as hair removal or reduction of pigmentation, as an additional benefit.

Hair Removal

Intense Pulsed Light is a hair removal treatment which uses light of a particular wavelength to heat the hair follicle and surrounding tissue, effectively slowing the hair growth, and in some cases, preventing re-growth entirely.

The effectiveness of IPL treatment varies between individuals; as the light is attracted to melanin (pigment) in the hair, this treatment works best on dark, thick hair.

IPL FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q. How long until I see the results of a treatment?
A. We often recommend that photorejuvenation treatments be performed in a series of 3 treatments, scheduled 4 weeks apart, however, photorejuvenation will provide visible improvements even after just one treatment. You may notice results 10-14 days post treatment.

Q. Does it hurt?
A. Some client's have described it as feeling like "being flicked with a hot rubber band".

Q. Are there any side effects?
A. After treatment your skin may look pink, feel tender, tight and warm; a bit like sunburn. Pigment may appear darker and speckled like ‘milo’; this will eventually rise to the surface of the skin. Your skin may feel rough and flake off - this is all a normal part of the healing process.
