The biggest buzzword in the lash tech industry right now is ‘Hybrid Lashes’.
Driven by celebrities such as the Kardashians, hybrid lashes have risen hugely in popularity, and are essentially a strategic combination of both 'classic' and 'volume' lashes, applied across your lash line to give a fabulous fullness and gorgeous texture to your lashes!
Combining both the definition provided by classic lashes with the volume of Russian lashes, hybrid lashes represent the best of both worlds by giving a more natural, ‘messier’ look – one that is less uniform and more like how natural lashes grow.
This is achieved by applying a 50/50 mix of 1-to-1 classic lashes and hand-made fanned, volume lashes (Note: these are NOT pre-made fan or cluster lashes with the bulbs, which can be bad for natural lashes). A classic lash is used either side to ‘sandwich’ around 1 - 2 volume fans, and this is repeated over and over until 60-90% of all natural lashes are extended (depending on the look required).
The lash tech selects thickness, length and curl to best suit the client’s natural lashes and desired look – you could achieve a very staggered, spiky-looking hybrid set, or you could have a shorter, more natural-looking wispy set, with less graduation in lengths.
Offering a thicker, denser look than classic lashes, hybrid lashes are perfect for:
- Anyone with naturally fine or slightly gappy lashes wanting fuller lashes;
- Staggering longer and shorter lashes to achieve a more natural, texturized look;
- Adding more volume to your lashes – especially for those classic lash clients who are unsure about a denser look initially.
A full set of hybrid lashes typically takes around 2–2.5 hours; although this technique is more time consuming, it is essentially a work of creative lash art!
