How much is too much Filler?

People naturally associate a glamorous face with pouty lips, smooth skin, and a well-defined jawline. However, as we grow up (even just into the 20s!), our faces lose collagen, elasticity, and hyaluronic acid, so we start to show our age.

Fortunately, modern medical advancements have brought about dermal filler to restore our youthful look at any age. It can almost become addictive to stay so young-looking with filler treatments, so how do you know when it’s too much of a good thing? Let’s take a look…

Why would I get facial filler?

The typical signs of growing up on our faces include the following:

  • More oblong face shape
  • Flattened cheeks
  • Presence of jowls (sagging under the jaw near the chin)
  • Hollowing under-eye areas
  • Hollowing in the temple area
  • Decreased jawline definition

These signs can make you look sad or tired. To fill out the skin and firm up the lines again, you can get strategic dermal filler injections. Dermal fillers will restore your youthful look and augment your facial structure.

The type of filler you choose will depend on the volume needed and the area treated. Some fillers can lift the cheeks and jawlines; others can gently soften the lip lines around the mouth area. Still, others can add volume to sunken temples, fill in hollowness under the eyes, and repair downturned mouth corners.

When your filler is too much…

If you get too much filler in your face, you will have an unnatural look. Remember that having the right amount will help you look naturally youthful, but having too much can make your features look askew.

Below are some of the common results of having too much filler in your face:

  • You may look a little puffy
  • You look too “full”
  • Lips may look unnatural

Having a youthful face means that you have less loose skin and a healthy glow. Although your dermal filler can restore the fullness of your face, it cannot tighten your skin.

You may have too much dermal filler if your lower lip can no longer touch your upper lip and as a result, your lips may appear too big and not proportional.

Dermal fillers can last up to 12 months or longer. If you go back to your cosmetic treatment provider for more filler too soon after your last treatment, then you may be getting too much ‘volume’. Listen to the treatment providers recommendations about how often to have your facial treatments.

Our aim is to always listen, help you look and feel the best you, and to work with you as a team!
