CBD
What it is, how it works, and what it actually costs
At TruYou NZ Health, we aim to make CBD easy to understand, easy to access, and clinically guided.
When experience matters — even in wellness.
What is CBD
CBD (cannabidiol) is a natural compound derived from the cannabis plant
Commonly used to support stress, anxiety, sleep, pain, and inflammation
Does not produce a “high”
Prescribed legally in New Zealand through a doctor
How you take it
Most commonly taken as an oil under the tongue
Usually once or twice daily
Start low and increase gradually
Dosing is adjusted to find your individual response
How much do you need
Mild stress or sleep support: 10–30mg per day
Anxiety or ongoing stress: 30–80mg per day
Pain or inflammation: 50–150mg per day
Higher therapeutic use: 100–200mg per day
Individual response varies; dosing is guided and adjusted as needed
Why strength matters
CBD oils come in different strengths (for example 25mg/mL vs 100mg/mL)
Higher strength means fewer drops and easier dosing
Higher strength is usually more cost-effective
Most adults benefit from using higher-strength products
What it costs in New Zealand
Starter or low strength: $130–$180 per bottle
Standard strength (most common): $220–$300 per bottle
High strength: $260–$320 per bottle
CBD is not currently funded in most cases
Pricing can vary between pharmacies, as each pharmacy sets its own retail price
Monthly cost guide
10–30mg per day: $100–$200 per month
30–80mg per day: $150–$350 per month
80–150mg per day: $250–$600 per month
150mg+ per day: $400–$800+ per month
Product choice and dosing significantly impact cost
