BIO-STIMULATION
Bio-Stimulation (Radiesse ®) is an injectable treatment; a special filler material which contains spheres of calcium hydroxylapatite, suspended in a matrix gel of water and glycerine, which stimulates the body to produce its own natural collagen (collagen is what keeps our skin from sagging, giving us that plump, youthful look).
Radiesse ® is used to treat areas of the face; it is also used for the body (for example, hands, neck and upper décolletage, abdomen and upper arms), to give a collagen boost which firms the skin, reduces the appearance of cellulite and softens lines and wrinkles.
Radiesse ® works primarily by stimulating the production of collagen, so it is not a ‘quick fix’! Initially the matrix gel provides a ‘filler type’ effect but the production of collagen and the resulting benefits takes several weeks to produce results and you are likely to require more than one treatment.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q. How long will it last?
A. This depends on the area being treated as well as the person themselves - due mainly to the difference in an individual’s skin health! Your skin will continue to age at its normal rate; the collagen stimulating effects will last between 18 – 36 months – or as long as collagen would normally last in the individual (remember that external influences such as smoking, sunlight and other environmental factors will impact this).
Q. How many treatments will I need?
A. 1-2 treatments are normally required, depending on the area being treated and the severity.
Q. Are there any risks or side effects?
A. All treatments can have possible side effects; however small you need to understand what these are so you can decide whether the treatment is right for you. While most are minimal and resolve quickly you need to be aware of:
- A risk of infection because we need to break the skin barrier to inject the product.
- Redness, pain and swelling are common side effects and usually minimal.
- ‘Lumps and bumps’ may be common initially as product is injected; they should not be visible but may be felt under the tissue and will soften out as the product integrates into your own tissue.
